Set in the mountainous and isolated region of Tran, Bulgaria, the film tells three stories based on a collection of short stories, set in different years in the same village. All three stories share the theme of cold and are linked by recurring characters and elements — the pub, the village streets, and certain characters—within a setting of almost epic hyperrealism, culminating in a surprise ending that brings everything full circle.
