Clely Quaiat left Trieste when she was a child: it was the 1950s, and she set sail for Australia with her family. But Clely is a curious, restless young girl, and once she has grown up, she decides to pursue the dreams she had nurtured for years, until she discovers a distant place she could not enter: the Northern Territories, Aboriginal land. She takes her two children with her, and one day she meets a man, the son of the Aboriginal chief of those territories, Terry Yumbulul, and for Clely, yet another life begins. But the memory of Trieste never leaves her.
