Calogero is an ordinary man who made an extraordinary choice. A Sicilian granita vendor, one day he witnesses a Mafia murder and decides to do something not everyone would have the courage to do: testify. And so Calogero is packed up and sent, under the witness protection program, to the place farthest from Sicily: to the mountains of Friuli, to Sauris, a village of hospitable people whom he struggles to understand.
