In his latest feature film, Razka Robby Ertanto explores the illegal aspects of the labor market in Indonesia, as he did in his previous film, Cross the Line (2022). But while the 2022 film addressed the challenges faced by migrant workers, Yohanna is a nerve-wracking thriller that reflects on the all-too-common exploitation of young children as a labor force, exploring the tenets of faith and the realities of daily life in modern-day Indonesia. The narrative follows the perspective of the protagonist, a young nun whose faith is wavering. When the car she uses to deliver humanitarian aid disappears, her search leads her into the dark world of children forced to work long hours under harsh, and sometimes even dangerous, conditions.
