For Giacinto, prison is home. He was born there, and he stays there for his early years, along with his mother. It is there that he learns to walk—and, above all, to run. When he is released, Jack, a burly but kind prison guard, accompanies him out. Waiting for him is an energetic and patient young priest who takes him to a foster home where Giacinto doesn’t feel he belongs. For him, prison is the best place to take refuge from the dangers of that foreign world, so as soon as he can, he runs to find his mother in prison. Once he becomes an adult, he returns to prison as a correctional officer, and realizes that it is time for him to grow up.
